Bread for All – U.S. Operations

Building a Sustainable, Low-Cost Food Supply Network for Local Communities

Bread for All’s developing U.S. initiative focuses on a clear objective: reducing the cost of essential staple foods for everyday families by redesigning how these products reach local stores.

This initiative includes the development of DailyGrain™, our planned line of affordable staple food products that will be available through participating neighborhood grocery stores.

Rather than providing direct food handouts, our U.S. initiative strengthens community-based food access by partnering with neighborhood grocery stores and using a wholesale procurement model that lowers retail prices, quietly, effectively, and without stigma.

Why We Launched This Program in the U.S.

Food insecurity is not always visible. Many working families earn too much to qualify for food assistance but still struggle with grocery prices, especially for staples like rice, lentils, beans, and flour.

We designed this program to:

  • Support families before they reach crisis
  • Use an economic model that works with existing small businesses
  • Make staple foods affordable through supply-chain efficiency instead of subsidies
  • Preserve dignity by allowing families to buy food in regular stores

This complements our international humanitarian work, but it is not the same model – the U.S. program is built on market intervention, not charity distribution.

How the U.S. Program Will Work

1. Strategic Procurement

We will source staple food items from cost-efficient suppliers across the Midwest, California, and reputable international markets. By purchasing in high volumes and reducing intermediaries, we expect to achieve significantly lower per-unit costs, allowing us to introduce DailyGrain™ affordable staple products into local communities.

2. Partnering With Community Stores

We will collaborate with neighborhood grocery stores that already serve multicultural communities like Pakistani, Indian, Latino, African, Middle Eastern, and other independent markets.

Participating stores will agree to:

  • Carry designated DailyGrain™ staple products
  • Sell them at pre-agreed, reduced pricing
  • Maintain clear and transparent shelf labels

This approach transforms local stores into accessible, dignity-preserving food access points without creating a charitable or subsidy appearance.

3. Price Governance

To keep prices stable and fair, we will establish a maximum retail price for each DailyGrain™ product. The focus is not profit, but affordable, predictable pricing for families most affected by rising food costs.

4. Continuous Oversight

We will collaborate with neighborhood grocery stores that already serve multicultural communities like Pakistani, Indian, Latino, African, Middle Eastern, and other independent markets.

To ensure the program remains consistent and equitable, we will:

  • Monitor supplier pricing and market fluctuations
  • Track store compliance with pricing agreements
  • Analyze community demand trends
  • Expand into new neighborhoods based on impact data and readiness

This approach transforms local stores into accessible, dignity-preserving food access points without creating a charitable or subsidy appearance.

What Makes This Approach Unique

This program fills a gap between food banks and full-price retail.

Instead of charity lines…
Instead of dependence on donations for individual meals…

We build a permanent, market-based affordability structure by optimizing the supply chain.

Key Advantages:

  • Families maintain dignity – no registrations, no restrictions
  • Stores benefit from increased foot traffic
  • Donor impact multiplies through repeated cycles of procurement
  • Prices remain predictable even when markets fluctuate

This is a scalable, replicable, and community-empowering model.
